This webinar looks at what can go wrong under anaesthesia and which patients are most at risk, including geriatric, paediatric and obese patients, brachycephalic breeds, emergency cases and longer procedures. It covers equipment faults such as soda lime exhaustion, ET tube problems, a closed pop-off valve and an empty vaporiser, and the routine checks that prevent them.
It then works through the signs, causes and actions for apnoea, bradycardia, tachycardia and hypotension, including what to check first and how the cause shapes the response. It finishes with a short quiz recapping high risk patients and first actions.
Presented by Nicola Wilkinson at the 2021 ACVN Student Conference.
Includes the full recording (49 minutes), the presentation slides as a PDF, and a quiz. Pass the quiz to receive a certificate worth 1 AVNAT point.
