Many anaesthetic deaths happen after the patient has left theatre. This webinar looks at why the recovery period is so risky, using figures from the Confidential Enquiry into Peri-Operative Small Animal Fatalities (CEPSAF), then explains how hypothermia and hypoxia develop in recovery, the signs to look for, the nursing care for each, and what happens if they are not corrected.
It then covers which parameters to monitor in recovery and how often, the care of patients with a prolonged recovery, and why analgesia and fluid therapy matter in the post-operative period.
