Older patients often come to anaesthesia with illnesses that change how they are prepared, anaesthetised and monitored. This webinar works through the conditions most likely to affect geriatric dogs and cats: renal disease, cardiovascular disease (mitral valve disease, dilated cardiomyopathy and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy), Cushing’s disease, diabetes mellitus and hyperthyroidism.
For each condition it covers what the disease does and the anaesthetic considerations that follow, including drug choices, blood pressure and fluid support, and blood glucose management. It finishes with why older patients are prone to hypothermia, how to prevent it, and what to prioritise when monitoring a geriatric patient under anaesthesia.
