Choosing the right fluid is a daily decision in veterinary nursing. This webinar covers the three groups of fluids: crystalloids, colloids, and blood and blood products. It explains Hartmann’s, 0.9% sodium chloride, 5% dextrose and 0.18% sodium chloride with 4% glucose, what tonicity means, and when each fluid is used.
It then looks at colloids and blood products, including whole blood, packed red blood cells and plasma, covers the equipment needed for IV fluid therapy, and works through two cases.
Presented by Michele El Bayeh at the 2024 ACVN Nurse Conference (Medical stream).
