Cushing’s syndrome (hyperadrenocorticism) can be hard to diagnose, and the information nurses collect is a big part of getting there. This webinar covers naturally occurring and iatrogenic forms, predisposed breeds, clinical signs, and the blood and urine changes you may see, including the link with diabetes mellitus in dogs and cats. It then works through the diagnostic tests: the urine cortisol:creatinine ratio, the low dose dexamethasone suppression test, the ACTH stimulation test and imaging.
It finishes with treatment, focusing on trilostane and how it differs from mitotane, along with monitoring, nutrition and client communication, including log sheets, testing times and watching for signs of over-suppression.
Presented by Nicola Lakeman at the 2025 ACVN Nurse Conference (Medical stream).
Includes the full recording (56 minutes), the presentation slides as a PDF, and a quiz. Pass the quiz to receive a certificate worth 1 AVNAT point.
