This webinar covers hyperthyroidism in cats and hypothyroidism in dogs. For hyperthyroidism it looks at which cats are affected and why, the clinical signs, scintigraphy, the effects of excess thyroid hormone on the heart and blood pressure, and what to expect from surgery, including ectopic thyroid tissue and medical management beforehand.
For hypothyroidism it covers autoimmune thyroiditis, predisposed breeds, overdiagnosis, replacement hormones and the timing of monitoring blood tests. It finishes with hypothyroidism as a risk factor for pancreatitis and the co-morbidities to watch for.
Presented by Nicola Lakeman at the 2025 ACVN Nurse Conference (Medical stream).
