Injured and orphaned wildlife can turn up at any clinic. This webinar covers the species most commonly rescued, WHS considerations including Australian bat lyssavirus and safe handling, and common wildlife emergencies such as dog and cat attacks, impact injuries and orphaned juveniles.
It explains how to carry out an initial assessment and triage, the criteria for euthanasia, and emergency care: oxygen, warming, rehydration, wound care, haemorrhage control, fracture stabilisation and analgesia. A case study of a ringtail possum with burns brings it together.
Presented by Ann Garcia at the 2024 ACVN Nurse Conference (Critical Care stream).
