“Pocket pets” covers a range of species from different families, and this webinar starts by introducing rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, mice, ferrets and sugar gliders. It covers fear free handling for each species, assessment and pain recognition, grimace scales, normal ranges, and how to house, place and feed small patients in a clinic without an exotics room.
The second half covers anaesthesia: ASA grading and preparation, IV access sites, premedication, induction choices, gaseous agents, and when to intubate or use a mask, including v-gels and cut-down ET tubes. It finishes with the common conditions seen in each species and some advice on building your confidence with pocket pets.
Presented by Adam Gregory at the 2025 ACVN Nurse Conference (Exotics and Wildlife stream).
Includes the full recording (1 hour 10 minutes), the presentation slides as a PDF, and a quiz. Pass the quiz to receive a certificate worth 1 AVNAT point.
