Knowing your instruments makes you a more useful surgical assistant and a more reliable kit packer. This webinar starts with the basic primary surgery kit, then covers the features and uses of forceps, haemostats, needle drivers, scissors, scalpel handles and blades, towel clamps, and hand-held and self-retaining retractors. It also covers suction tips, electrosurgery items and the spey hook.
It introduces basic orthopaedic and dental instruments, explains how to check instruments for damage, and finishes by packing a kit for the autoclave and choosing the right instruments for different procedures.
Presented by Jess Male at the 2024 ACVN Nurse Conference (Surgical stream).
Includes the full recording (1 hour 18 minutes), the presentation slides as a PDF, and a quiz. Pass the quiz to receive a certificate worth 1 AVNAT point.
