Digestion makes more sense when you follow the food. This webinar takes you from mouth to large intestine, with interactive quiz questions along the way.
You’ll start with what food is and the nutrients it contains, including macronutrients and micronutrients and how needs change with life stage. You’ll then follow the ‘tributes’, protein, fat and carbohydrate, through the mouth and oral anatomy, the oesophagus and oesophageal foreign bodies, and the stomach, where acid, pepsin, mucus and mechanical churning produce chyme.
Next comes the small intestine, including the duodenum with bile and pancreatic enzymes and absorption across the villi in the jejunum and ileum, then the large intestine with its water reabsorption and bacterial fermentation. Along the way you’ll look at common disorders that affect nutrient absorption, such as gastritis, ulcers, foreign bodies, GDV, pyloric stenosis, enteritis, pancreatitis, exocrine pancreatic insufficiency and parasites.
