Intensive care nursing is detailed, hands-on work. This webinar covers the daily care that makes the difference for these patients.
You’ll work through the daily care of intensive care patients, many of them on a ventilator. This covers tube care, including oesophageal and nasogastric feeding tubes, stoma cleaning and clearing blockages; urinary catheter care and measuring urine output; oral care for ventilated patients including suctioning and endotracheal tube care; IV catheter and central line care with complications such as extravasation and phlebitis; and eye care with lubrication and eye masks.
You’ll then cover wellbeing care (noise, cotton balls in the ears and bedding changes), thermoregulation and why Bair Huggers are replacing hot water bottles, physical therapy with massage, range of motion and turning to prevent pressure sores and hypostatic pneumonia, monitoring including arterial blood pressure, common medications such as sedation CRIs, analgesia, antibiotics and antivenom, and documentation, handover and client communication. The webinar finishes with a case study of Simba, a trauma patient hit by a car.
