Signalment is the set of details that identifies a patient: age, sex, reproductive status, species and breed, and sometimes colouring or distinctive markings. This webinar covers where the signalment comes from, why it should be confirmed with the owner, and why the full signalment is used to identify the patient every time before feeding, medicating, procedures or other handling.
It shows the usual way to introduce a patient in a handover or referral and works through a scenario with two dogs of the same name in for the same surgery. It finishes with how signalment helps vets and nurses think about which conditions a patient is more likely to have.
Presented by Anneka Pierzga as part of the ACVN webinar series.
Includes the full recording (23 minutes), the presentation slides as a PDF, and a quiz. Pass the quiz to receive a certificate worth 1 AVNAT point.
