Heart rate and pulse rate are not always the same thing. This webinar covers how to measure heart rate by thoracic auscultation, including where to place the stethoscope on the left thoracic wall and how long to count for. It then explains what a pulse is, why pulse quality tells you about perfusion, and what weak, absent or hyperdynamic pulses can mean.
It explains pulse deficits and why they can be picked up by nurses during hospitalisation, then covers the main pulse points and when each is used. It finishes with a live demonstration of listening to the heart while palpating the femoral pulse.
Presented by Anneka Pierzga as part of the ACVN webinar series.
Includes the full recording (36 minutes), the presentation slides as a PDF, and a quiz. Pass the quiz to receive a certificate worth 1 AVNAT point.
