Radiation is dangerous because you cannot see the damage it does. This webinar explains how radiation affects living cells, which cells are most sensitive, and the difference between carcinogenic, somatic and genetic effects. It then covers how radiation legislation and regulations shape clinic policy, the annual exposure threshold, and how to wear, store and use TLDs, including the control badge.
It goes through radiation PPE (lead aprons, thyroid protectors, lead gloves and goggles) and how to care for it, and the extra hazards of in field radiography with large animals. It finishes with patient safety during radiography, including sedation, monitoring and keeping patients warm, and the main positioning aids: blocks, troughs, foam pads, sandbags, and tape and rope ties.
