This webinar explains why pain needs to be measured, from its effects on fear and stress, wound healing, breathing, the cardiovascular system and appetite, to the risk of giving drugs unnecessarily or missing pain that is not being treated. It covers when pain scoring is needed, how pain expression differs between species, breeds and ages, and how to approach a pain assessment in practice.
It then looks at physiological and behavioural signs of pain, what makes a pain scoring tool validated, and finishes with the feline grimace scale and the other grimace scales available.
Presented by Nicola Wilkinson as part of the ACVN webinar series.
