Foaling season is no time to be learning on the job. This webinar helps you and your team get ready in advance.
You’ll start with setting up a foal unit and the equipment used for neonates: oxygen concentrators and portable oxygen tanks, the Bair Hugger, fluid pumps and the hot water pot for warming milk. You’ll then cover common foal illnesses, beginning with colostrum and failure of transfer of passive immunity (including IgG cut-offs, causes and when to give plasma), septic joints, persistent and patent urachus, neonatal maladjustment syndrome and the Madigan squeeze, and meconium and ascarid impactions.
The webinar finishes with foal diarrhoea. Non-infectious causes covered are foal heat diarrhoea, sand ingestion, antibiotic-associated diarrhoea and lactose intolerance, and infectious causes are rotavirus, Salmonella, E. coli and Clostridium, along with Rhodococcus equi pneumonia, its diagnosis and treatment.
