CPR goes better when everyone knows the plan. This webinar gives you the evidence-based steps and the reasons behind them.
You’ll start with the RECOVER guidelines, the free, evidence-based recommendations for veterinary CPR, and why a resuscitation code (CPR or DNR) should be obtained before an unstable patient goes out the back. You’ll then work through basic life support: the team roles of compressor, ventilator, drugs and leader/recorder, compressions at 100 to 120 per minute in 2 minute cycles, the thoracic pump and cardiac pump techniques for different chest shapes, good and bad compression technique, and how to judge whether compressions are working, including an ETCO2 above 15 mmHg. Ventilation covers intubating without stopping compressions and giving 10 breaths per minute.
The advanced life support section adds ECG and capnograph monitoring, and recognising sinus rhythm, pulseless electrical activity, asystole and the shockable rhythms ventricular fibrillation and pulseless ventricular tachycardia. You’ll cover vascular access by IV, intraosseous and intratracheal routes, the RECOVER drug chart (adrenaline, vasopressin, atropine, anti-arrhythmics and reversal agents), defibrillation safety and timing, and finish with a CPR scenario.
