This webinar describes what emergency nurses actually do, from primary emergency cases and emergency surgery to overnight transfers from referring vets and ICU care. It explains how a shift is structured using five nurse roles (triage, float, initial orders, hospital and procedures), start-of-shift checklists and rounds, and how patients are triaged into minor, moderate and severe categories.
It also covers the skills and knowledge you need to start out, ways to get a job in emergency, and the highs and lows of the work. It finishes with practical advice on staying healthy as a shift worker, including sleep, napping, sunlight, exercise and what to eat on night shift.
