This webinar looks at the nurse’s role in advocating for a dental patient in pain, including how to raise concerns with the vet using facts and solutions. It covers recognising pain under general anaesthesia, such as rising heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure, and why turning up the isoflurane is not the answer.
It then covers analgesic options for dental procedures, from the premedication opioid and IV opioids to local nerve blocks for major extractions and NSAIDs for post-operative and take-home pain relief. It finishes with monitoring in recovery, telling pain apart from drug side effects such as drooling, and the signs of pain to discuss with owners at discharge.
