This webinar defines shock as a state of cellular and tissue hypoxia and explains the four key categories: hypovolaemic, cardiogenic, distributive and obstructive. It then works through the compensated, decompensated and terminal stages of shock, the clinical signs that change as a patient moves through them, and why cats often present late.
It covers the shock organs in dogs and cats and the first aid measures for shock, including oxygen, IV access, the current approach to fluid therapy and treating the underlying cause. It finishes with four case scenarios where you identify the type of shock, the stage and the first aid to apply.
Presented by Laura Salmond as part of the ACVN webinar series.
