This webinar works through the musculoskeletal system as a detective case, built around a cat that presents acutely lame on a foreleg. It covers the structure of bone, from cortical and spongy bone to the marrow, periosteum and articular cartilage, the roles of the axial and appendicular skeleton, the functions of muscle, and the difference between tendons and ligaments and why they are slow to heal.
Using the case, it looks at the muscles that flex and extend the elbow, weighs up fracture, muscle tear, tendon injury and ligament injury as causes, and finishes by explaining how the triceps pulled the olecranon away from the ulna in an avulsion fracture.
Presented by Jess Male as part of the ACVN 2025 webinar series.
Includes the full recording (1 hour 9 minutes), the presentation slides as a PDF, and a quiz. Pass the quiz to receive a certificate worth 1 AVNAT point.
