This webinar explains what osteoarthritis is and how it develops, including the joint organ concept, synovial joints and fluid, cartilage loss, osteophytes and the role of inflammation. It covers modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors, how common OA is in young dogs and in cats, and why radiographs don’t always match what the patient is feeling.
It then looks at the types of pain linked to OA, the signs of chronic pain, weight loading and pain scoring tools. It finishes with the veterinary nurse’s role in managing OA cases: nurse mobility clinics, collaborative care with owners, weight management, changes at home and in the practice, and working with the wider team of therapists.
Presented by Kirsty Cavill as part of the ACVN 2025 webinar series.
