Laryngeal paralysis narrows the airway, and affected dogs can go into a breathing crisis after exercise or a change in the weather. This webinar starts with normal laryngeal anatomy and what goes wrong when the arytenoid cartilages stop moving, then covers which dogs and cats are affected, the congenital and acquired causes including GOLPP, and the clinical signs such as stridor, dysphonia and dysphagia.
It works through the diagnostic work up and laryngoscopy, emergency stabilisation of a patient in respiratory distress, medical management, and the cricoarytenoid lateralisation (“tie-back”) procedure. It finishes with post-operative nursing care, with a focus on keeping the patient calm and reducing the risk of aspiration.
Presented by Gemma Abbitt as part of the ACVN 2025 webinar series.
Includes the full recording (57 minutes), the presentation slides as a PDF, and a quiz. Pass the quiz to receive a certificate worth 1 AVNAT point.
