The way sepsis is defined and diagnosed has changed a lot. This webinar brings you up to date and shows you what it means at the cage side.
You’ll learn how sepsis is defined, as the body’s overwhelming, life-threatening response to infection, and the diseases associated with it, such as septic peritonitis, pneumonia and pyothorax. You’ll follow the pathophysiology step by step, from infection and the immune response through SIRS, hypoperfusion, metabolic acidosis and septic shock to multiple organ dysfunction (MODS), including endothelial damage and DIC.
You’ll then trace how the diagnostic criteria have changed from Sepsis-1 (1991) and Sepsis-2 (2001) to Sepsis-3 (2016), with the SOFA and qSOFA scores, canine and feline SIRS criteria, the diagnostic workup (bloods, urine, lactate, imaging and fluid analysis) and the redefinition of septic shock. The webinar finishes with treatment: fluid resuscitation, oxygen therapy, finding and controlling the source of infection, early IV antimicrobials, and monitoring and nursing care.
