This webinar looks at which vital signs you monitor yourself during an anaesthetic and which are monitored by machines. It covers manual checks of heart and pulse rate, pulse deficits, respiration rate and effort, temperature, CRT and mucous membrane colour, then works through the pulse oximeter, Ap-alert, Doppler and oscillometric blood pressure, the capnograph and multi-parameter monitors, including target values and common sources of error.
It finishes by weighing up the benefits and limits of you and the machine, and why you should always check the patient first when an alarm sounds.
Presented by Michele El Bayeh at the 2022 ACVN Student Conference.
