This webinar explains why the recovery period is one of the riskiest times for anaesthetic patients and how common post-anaesthetic hypothermia is in dogs and cats. It covers how the body produces and controls heat, the causes of hypothermia under anaesthesia, the four ways heat is lost, and which patients are most at risk.
It then looks at the signs of hypothermia, how to prevent it with passive, active and core warming, and how to avoid rewarming shock. It finishes with the effects of hypothermia on the liver, heart, breathing, kidneys and healing, and why it often means a longer hospital stay.
