Clear, accurate charting protects your patients and your team. This webinar takes the guesswork out of the hospital treatment chart.
You’ll work through the headings on a hospital treatment chart, from patient details, warnings and diet to medications, observations, the TPR section, EDDU (eating, drinking, defecating, urinating), fluids and catheter care. You’ll learn the common shorthand, including dosing frequencies, routes, sex and neuter status, level of consciousness, resuscitation codes and the faeces scale.
You’ll then learn how to read the chart and work to the vet’s treatment plan, write amounts in mg or mL using the dose calculation formula, set fluid rates in mL/hr and boluses, and why everything must be recorded. The webinar finishes with managing mistakes and the importance of initials, structuring a handover with the ISBAR technique, and filling in an example inpatient daily care record together.
Presented by Jen Peart, BSc (Animal Biology), Cert IV RVN, Cert IV TAE, as part of the ACVN webinar series.
