A good bandage supports healing, and a bad one can cause harm. This webinar gives you the foundations to get it right.
You’ll learn the wound types, including punctures, lacerations, abrasions, avulsions and contusions, and the factors that affect healing, such as location and the degree and duration of contamination. You’ll then cover the approaches to closure: first intention, second intention, secondary closure, delayed (third intention) closure and epithelialisation, and how to prepare and clean a wound, including using sterile lube as a barrier, clipping, scrubbing and flushing with sterile saline.
Next come the primary, secondary and tertiary bandage layers and adherent, non-adherent and semi-occlusive dressings, followed by light pressure, haemorrhage control and stabilisation bandages, stirrups and the Robert Jones bandage. The webinar finishes with complications: bandages that are too tight, patient interference and wet or soiled bandages.
