From tempting a fussy eater to managing a feeding tube, this webinar gives you the skills to get nutrition into every inpatient.
You’ll start with why nutrition matters in hospitalised patients, including energy requirements, the metabolic changes after trauma and the effect on wound healing and recovery. You’ll then cover what to feed, why patients may not eat and when to start assisted feeding, with ways to encourage eating by improving the ambience and the palatability of food.
You’ll then work through feeding methods: appetite stimulants, hand feeding, syringe feeding, crop feeding in birds, and feeding tubes, comparing naso-oesophageal, nasogastric, oesophageal, gastrostomy and jejunostomy tubes. You’ll learn how to give a tube feed, stoma care and managing blockages, and finish with calculating the resting energy requirement (RER) and recording food and water intake on the hospital chart.
