This webinar covers safe and humane handling of lizards, snakes and turtles. It starts with identifying the main groups of Australian reptiles, then shows how to hold small and large lizards, including the torpedo hold, why a lizard should never be held by the tail, and how a bearded dragon shows displeasure.
For snakes it covers controlling the head, supporting the body, the warning signs of a strike and the rules for venomous and unknown snakes. It then looks at holding small and large turtles, avoiding bites and claw injuries, and why snakes should not be handled around feeding.
Presented by Shoned Hawksworth as part of the ACVN webinar series.
Includes the full recording (33 minutes), the presentation slides as a PDF, and a quiz. Pass the quiz to receive a certificate worth 1 AVNAT point.
