Nursing care plans help make sure every patient gets all the care it needs, and that nurses step in before abilities are lost or problems arise. This webinar introduces the Ability Model, the first veterinary patient-specific model, and its 10 abilities: eat, drink, urinate, defecate, breathe normally, maintain body temperature, groom and clean, mobilise, sleep and rest, and express normal behaviour. It covers how to assess each patient’s normal routine, what it can and cannot do, and how to set short and long term goals.
It then works through two case studies: Sasha, a Labrador with idiopathic vestibular disease, and Benji, a cat with cat flu in isolation. For each one it shows how the patient’s normals shape practical nursing interventions, from bowl choice and bedding to assisted walking and litter tray set-up.
Presented by Shoned Hawksworth as part of the ACVN webinar series.
Includes the full recording (35 minutes), the presentation slides as a PDF, and a quiz. Pass the quiz to receive a certificate worth 1 AVNAT point.
