This webinar is an introduction to catching and restraining birds safely. It covers WHS considerations, including PPE, towel choice for small and large birds, and hearing protection, then explains how to set up a secure room, minimise stress and avoid injury, given birds’ lack of a diaphragm, their fragile skeleton and their crop.
It covers reading aggressive and normal behaviour, recognising a sick bird and the masking phenomenon, and when not to handle. It finishes with the two finger restraint for small birds, the three finger restraint for larger parrots, and the extra care needed with raptors and wild birds.
Presented by Linda Kirkland as part of the ACVN webinar series.
Includes the full recording (20 minutes), the presentation slides as a PDF, and a quiz. Pass the quiz to receive a certificate worth 1 AVNAT point.
