This webinar explains what a minimum database is and works through the parts of a complete blood count: red cell parameters, the five white cell lines, platelets, dot plots and the main leukogram patterns. It then covers the biochemistry panel grouped by body system, including kidney and liver values, pancreatic enzymes, protein, energy metabolism, muscle enzymes, minerals and lactate, and what high and low results may indicate.
It also looks at sodium, potassium and chloride and why electrolytes matter in patients on IV fluids. It finishes with a case study of a collapsed German Shepherd, using her blood results to work towards a diagnosis.
Presented by Jess Male at the 2023 ACVN Nurse Conference.
