Feeding behaviour is the way a species finds its food, and it ties in closely with whether an animal is a carnivore, herbivore or something else. This webinar works through the six main feeding behaviours: predation, scavenging, foraging, grazing, browsing and filter feeding. For each one it covers how the animal finds food, what it eats, which dietary classes use it and examples from Australian birds, mammals, reptiles and marsupials.
It also looks at the difference between hunters and predators and between obligate and facultative scavengers, and uses a video of a tortoise hunting a bird to show that animals do not always fit one category. It finishes with an activity matching species to their feeding behaviours.
Presented by Shoned Hawksworth as part of the ACVN webinar series.
