Getting a dose wrong in either direction can harm a patient, through side effects from an overdose or an ineffective dose of drugs such as seizure medications and antibiotics. This webinar covers the units drugs come in (grams, milligrams, micrograms and international units), converting between them, and finding the concentration of a drug from its label, per tablet or per millilitre.
It then sets out the steps of a drug calculation, from body weight and dose to what you need divided by what you have, and works through practice examples using injectable drugs and tablets. It finishes with simple checks to make sure your answer makes sense before the drug is given.
