The signals a dog gives before it growls or bites are small and fast: a lip lick, a hard swallow, a glance with the whites of the eyes showing. Learn to see them and you can change your handling before a patient feels it has to defend itself.
Natalie Woolley works through real video of dogs being lifted onto a table, groomed with and without low-stress handling, and having their nails ground or clipped. Each clip is paused to point out whale eye, lip licking, hard swallows, panting, ear and tail position, a hunched top line, weight shifting away and paw lifting, and what each one means for how you handle that dog.
You’ll see the difference between a dog that is comfortable, one that is merely tolerating handling, and one that has shut down. The webinar also covers safe lifting technique for a medium to large dog, positioning for a nail trim, and what a shake-off tells you after handling.
