The second part of this series looks at anaesthesia for caesarean sections and trauma patients. For caesareans, it covers the cardiovascular and respiratory changes of pregnancy, the risks of regurgitation and atelectasis, reduced drug requirements, how drugs affect the foetus, monitoring the dam and caring for neonates after delivery.
For trauma, it covers reperfusion injury, the problems to look for when assessing a trauma patient, and a case study of a dog with a severe nose injury. It finishes with the respiratory, haemodynamic, neurological and ophthalmic considerations for anaesthesia, drug choices and monitoring.
Presented by Nicola Wilkinson at the 2023 ACVN Nurse Conference.
