Understanding premedication makes you a better anaesthetic nurse. This webinar explains what each common premed does, what to watch for and how it shapes the whole anaesthetic.
You’ll start with the benefits of premedication: sedation and less anxiety, analgesia, a smoother induction and recovery, and less anaesthetic agent needed. You’ll then work through four commonly used drugs, acepromazine, methadone, midazolam and medetomidine, covering how each works, whether it can be reversed and the side effects to watch for.
The webinar finishes with how premedication affects the anaesthetic itself: a lower induction dose, a reduced minimum alveolar concentration (MAC), and a more balanced, multimodal approach that means fewer side effects and a safer anaesthetic.
