Vet nurses are well placed to guide families through hospice care. This webinar gives you the tools and structure to run a quality of life consultation with confidence and compassion.
You’ll start with what a quality of life consultation is and how quality of life is defined, then the principles of hospice care: comfort first, a family-centred and compassionate approach, shared decision making and reducing caregiver burden. You’ll then work through each part of the consultation, including hospice questionnaires, quality of life scales such as HHHHHMM, JOURNEYS and Lap of Love, and chronic pain scales.
The webinar also covers what to do when a family cannot let go, AI health monitoring collars, tracking good days and bad days, consultation summaries, anticipatory grief and grieving resources. It finishes with how often to follow up hospice patients based on risk, the veterinary nurse’s role in a hospice program, and the benefits of virtual care for these patients.
