A dipstick result is only as good as the technique behind it. Part 2 of Urine the Know helps you run the test correctly and read each result with confidence.
You’ll review the three parts of a complete urinalysis, laboratory safety, and the collection methods: free catch, bladder expression, catheterisation and cystocentesis. You’ll then learn how to perform a reagent strip test correctly, from mixing the sample and saturating and draining the pads to reading each pad at the right time and storing the strips properly.
The rest of the webinar works through each pad in turn: pH, protein, glucose, ketones, bile pigments (bilirubin and urobilinogen), blood and leukocytes. For each one you’ll learn what it detects, common causes of a positive result such as diabetes mellitus, Fanconi syndrome, intravascular haemolysis and muscle damage, and the sources of false positive and false negative results.
