In large animal and mixed practice, triage is done almost entirely over the phone. This webinar, with a focus on cattle, covers a four level triage system, the farm terminology and restraint equipment you need to know (yards, races and crushes), and the safety questions to ask so vets are sent to jobs they can do safely. It also covers setting up to take calls and scheduling routine visits to keep travel time down.
The main part works through the calls you are likely to triage, including calving, lacerations (and why an udder laceration is an emergency), fractures, down cows, tetany, bloat, stock truck accidents and prolapses. It finishes with the questions to ask when several animals in a herd are sick or dying and a disease investigation may be needed.
