You’ll start with the vet nurse’s role in dentistry and why periodontal disease matters, from reversible gingivitis through to periodontitis and its effects on the whole body. You’ll then cover the conscious oral exam, including the history to take and a systematic extraoral and intraoral exam, followed by charting under anaesthetic with the periodontal probe and explorer, dental charts and the Triadan numbering system.
Next comes the scale and polish: the dental unit and handpieces, patient set-up, safe use of the ultrasonic scaler, hand scaling with curettes and polishing. The webinar finishes with dental radiography, including the parallel and bisecting angle techniques and patient positioning, pain scoring after dental procedures, and the preventive and homecare options to discuss with clients, including brushing and the question of bones.
