This webinar looks at why instrument sterility matters, from the risk of infection and sepsis to longer surgery and anaesthetic times. It covers what to check when a pack comes out of the autoclave, how to cool and store sterile items, and why the common practice of re-autoclaving packs every 3 months is a myth.
It then explains how to tell whether an instrument has been sterilised, including the difference between Class 1 indicators such as autoclave tape and Class 5 indicator strips. It finishes with examples of non-sterile packs, including wet packs, poor seals and incorrect packing.
