This webinar starts with the basics of cardiac function: cardiac output, stroke volume, preload, afterload and contractility, and how systolic and diastolic function can fail. It then covers triage of the dyspnoeic patient, including signalment, respiratory and cardiac output assessment, why gum colour and pulse oximetry can mislead, and short and long term options for oxygen delivery. Imaging examples show pleural effusion, B-lines, pulmonary oedema and an enlarged heart.
The second half covers common cardiac emergencies and their treatment: left and right sided congestive heart failure, feline aortic thromboembolism (FATE), pulmonary hypertension, and ventricular and supraventricular arrhythmias. It finishes with the post-treatment monitoring that matters most for hospitalised cardiac patients.
