This webinar looks at how common co-morbidities change the way a patient is anaesthetised and monitored. It starts with cardiac disease, covering why these patients are at risk, drug choices, ventilation, fluids, hypothermia and hypotension, then moves to endocrine disease: hyperadrenocorticism, diabetes mellitus, hypoadrenocorticism, and hyper and hypothyroidism.
It then covers renal disease and liver disease, including portosystemic shunts, with the drugs to use and avoid and what to monitor during the anaesthetic and recovery. The key message throughout is low doses and a balanced, multimodal approach.
Presented by Nicola Wilkinson at the 2023 ACVN Nurse Conference.
