This webinar explains what safe animal handling is and what to assess before restraining a patient. It covers reading body language in dogs and cats, from relaxed and alert to fearful and aggressive, and the causes of aggression, including resource control, sickness and fear, and the perceived threat they have in common.
It then looks at the questions to ask owners before handling, why owners shouldn’t hold their pets for procedures, and low stress handling techniques. It finishes with the Fear Free approach, from preparing the patient at home to the waiting area, clinic ambiance, positive reinforcement and the touch gradient.
Presented by Kayleigh Williams as part of the ACVN webinar series.
