Triage is a decision you make many times a day. This webinar gives you a system you can rely on, with practice exercises to test yourself.
You’ll learn what triage is and work through the categories, from patients to be seen immediately, through very urgent and urgent, to standard, with the presenting signs and rectal temperature ranges that fit each one. You’ll then cover triage on the phone and in person: staying calm, treating every potential emergency as life threatening until proven otherwise, the important questions to ask owners, basic first aid advice, transport instructions and what to do when the patient arrives.
The initial exam section covers the distance and head to toe exam, the ABCD of emergency (airway, breathing, circulation, dysfunction), mucous membrane colours and level of consciousness. The webinar finishes with common emergency presentations: toad toxicity, snake envenomation, chocolate ingestion, trauma, dystocia, seizures, hypersensitivity, urethral obstruction and gastric dilatation volvulus, with two practice exercises putting cases in order of urgency.
