Physical therapy is one of the most practical ways a nurse can help an arthritic patient. This webinar gives you techniques to use straight away.
You’ll learn what osteoarthritis is, the joint changes involved and the signs owners notice, such as stiffness, limping, reluctance to get up or use stairs and pain-related aggression. You’ll then look at the multimodal approach to management, including weight control, NSAIDs, joint supplements, surgery and physical therapy.
The nursing techniques covered are passive range of motion, massage (compression, effleurage and petrissage), heat and cold therapy, and hydrotherapy using swimming and underwater treadmills. The webinar finishes with exercises owners can do at home, including stretching, strengthening, balance and proprioception work and cavaletti poles.
