This case-based webinar starts with telephone triage of a poisoned patient and the decontamination options: emesis and its contraindications, gastric lavage, activated charcoal, enterohepatic recycling and intralipid therapy. It then works through cases of chocolate, metaldehyde snail bait, anticoagulant rodenticide and marijuana toxicity, covering how each toxin works, the signs, treatment and what to monitor.
It moves on to nephrotoxins, including lilies, grapes and raisins, and NSAIDs, and how fluid therapy for these patients is changing. It also covers mycotoxins, cholecalciferol, cycads, topical decontamination, ibuprofen, iron, paracetamol and xylitol, and finishes with how to monitor patients by the body system each toxin affects.
Presented by Carina Sellwood as part of the ACVN webinar series.
