This webinar focuses on rabbits and other small exotics in hospital. It covers what to ask owners at admission, how to choose and set up a ward when you don’t have a dedicated exotics ward, and how to furnish the cage, from bedding and hay to litter trays and hiding places. It also covers safe handling of rabbits and why correct handling matters for their delicate skeleton.
It then looks at the stress response, how stress and pain can look alike, and how to use the rabbit grimace scale. It finishes with gastrointestinal stasis, how to recognise and monitor it, the aims of treatment, and how to syringe feed an exotic patient safely.
Presented by Yvonne Funk at the 2023 ACVN Nurse Conference.
Includes the full recording (45 minutes), the presentation slides as a PDF, and a quiz. Pass the quiz to receive a certificate worth 1 AVNAT point.
